    Ignition coil and condenser replacement

    Hello,

Advance auto parts has a ignition coil that they say will replace the Prestolite coil from my A 4, their part number EBC 1487. Has anyone use this replacement or similar replacements? likewise, I am looking for sources for replacement condenser. suggestions are greatly appreciated!

No way, no how. The coil you referenced is rated 0.3 - 1.0Ω primary resistance. The Atomic 4 needs a minimum of 3Ω.

It is okay to buy stuff for the A4 at auto parts stores but don't expect them to know what you need. Inquire at Moyer Marine first.

Don't know if this helps much, I have early model with points, uses Prestolite distributor etc. I am comfortable and recommend STANDARD brand Moyer parts but have needed parts from local auto part store.

From NAPA: coil IC14 approx 3.5 ohms or Echlin 905
        condenser AL38
        points CS709
        CAP AL91
        Rotor AL58

This info is from my old invoice dated 2010

Whatever coil you select make sure to test voltage at coil+ - it should not exceed 12 volts.
