How to prime mechanical fuel pump

I cleaned the carb and took off the sediment bowl and engine won’t start and no gas in sediment bowl. How does one prime the fuel pump using the bail?...

Thank you. I’m back at it and will check that out as soon as carb is cleaned and reinstalled. Also, I’m considering replacing the mechanical fuel pump with electric. Airtec E8251 if anyone can recommend. Thanks again....
