Broken ground wire

New community.
I recently noted that the grounding cable running from the engine housing to a (broken) stud on the hull next to the water intake valve is broken.
How do I reattach. Reluctant to drill hole there.

It might be worthwhile to peruse one of the excellent Marine electric books
with regard to grounding.

Many of the books suggest that in some cases, the thru hulls
not be attached and only one point, usually the keel be attached to the engine.
THis is done to prevent Galvanic action.

There are many worthwhile suggestions and alternative grounding techniques, including lightning protection.

You can peruse them and decide which method is best in your situation.

Your reluctance to drill a hole in that area will serve you well. In my opinion the engine should not be grounded to anything except the negative side of the batterys, nor should thru hulls be connected electrically to anything.

FWIW, I have come to the same conclusion after years of reviewing and discussing the controversial angles on the latter point.

I am just worried that that broken stud is part of your through-hull mounting!
