No compression cylinder closest to flywheel

    Hi -

Appreciate yr guys advice on this -

no compression on one cylinder, I can see the valve opening however. The others, I can't keep my thumb on the spark plug hole when cranking.

I took off the thermostat and see oil residue in it mixed with water.

    Is the cylinder shot?

    Thank you

Paul - Welcome to the forum. Many of the no compression issues we see are caused by valves sticking in the open position for one reason or another. You said that you could see a valve moving. What about the other one?

      Paul,
You will be interrogated much before we will pass judgement.
What this means is we will ask many questions and then the evidence will start forming a picture. Right now it could be anything.

The first of my questions is: Does this engine run at all?
Second: can you buy, beg, borrow, or steal a compression tester?

Oh, Welcome to the forum; a Ranger 33 is a great boat, cool.

Welcome and let the questioning begin. Raw or fresh water cooled? Have you noticed any signs of water in the crankcase oil? Dan S/V Marian Claire
