broken output stud - delco type alternator

In trying to free the corroded nuts from the output stud, I managed to shear the entire stud off inside the alternator. Considering that this guy has been out in the rain on a seawall for a few years, is it even worth cracking it open, removing, and replacing the broken stud when brand new replacements like this http://www.amazon.com/Delco-Marine-A...628090&sr=1-11 are available for so cheap?

What does everybody think? Are these alternators pretty resistant to the elements?

If the alternator has been outside in the rain the chances are good that other components such as bearings and field windings are also questionable. Unless an alternator is worth a rebuild, trash it. It is your labor that is the most expensive item.

      Nothing to loose

Snook, nothing to loose by opening it up. If it opens and there is corrosion on the wiring close it up and use it for a core and get a rebuilt unless you want to go to a higher rated output. Same thing if it doesnt want to open do the core and rebuild. Even if it's shot the casing and stator would be of value to a rebuilder and I would try to go direct to one.
