I am getting ready to swap my old A4 for a rebuilt A4 and I noticed that my shaft coupling is severely rusted. I am debating between the solid and split coupling as a replacement. When I installed the current solid coupling many moons ago, it had to be pressed on at a machine shop to ensure proper fit. Does the split coupling also need to be fitted/installed at a machine shop?

I just installed a split coupling on my shaft while it was in the boat and it fit like a glove, no need to press it on. I did have to shave down the key just a bit with a file to get it to where it would slip on.Chris

I had the same experience. The split coupling from MMI was a tight slip fit- no tools or press required. I actually had to install mine while hanging upside down and contorted, and had no trouble.Chris
