Thanks for the suggestions everyone...just wanted to update. My fuel was indeed disgusting. I ended up replacing the fuel tank and the filter. I also added a shut-off valve at the carb to solve the leaky float valve problem that seemed to be causing the no-start after sailing.

But alas....one thing always leads to another. Now I have a stuck valve which was fixed, followed by another stuck valve and a subsequent engine salt water bath. New thread http://www.moyermarine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7525
