    Brass Washers on Water Pump

Is there a reason it looks like brass flat washers are used on the water pump bolts instead of stainless lock washers?
I am putting my pump on today and don't happen to have brass washers sitting around.

joe, The only place I used brass washers were on the studs of my side plate, along with brass nuts on ss studs.

    SS on the water pump

Correct me if I am wrong, I think we have a theory that the brass nuts and washers on the side plate work as slight anode, and are easily replaceable, as opposed to the harder to reach nuts on the water pump.
