    Reverse Gear Troubles

    Dear Don,

I recently had my Atomic 4 rebuilt. Unfortunatly it did not drop in and go without problems, however your forum has helped me solve all of my problems except one. When installing my transmission cable I noticed the transmission would not pop into reverse as it does in forward. I tried adjusting the linkage to no avail. When running, the reverse gear seems to work but does not "click" into place. My question is if this is normal, or is there some adjustment I can make?

    Thanks again,
    Frank

You won't see/feel a "pop" when going into reverse. Reverse is
engaged by tightening a brake-like band around the reversing
gear which then engages the 2nd set of planetary gears.

Although I've read in other threads that you need to "hold" the lever to use reverse, that's not the case on my Ranger 33. It doesn't "snap" into reverse, but it stays there on it's own. I don't think I'd call my forward a "snap" either, but it does have some sort of more feel-able detent.
