            Now that I am home on the Apple I can't get my bearings - I would like to take the shot of the rig and start a new thread on my spar conversion ... Maybe tomorrow on the good old IBM at my work desk.

            Thanks for viewing my renovated , once very tired out "66 Columbia 34.

                    Jesse, I think there is a test 2 thread.

                    edit - yup...check it. --> http://www.moyermarine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6050

                    +1 on more pics. A CF rig on an old Columbia is awesome. Laker, I remember our discussion a year or so ago about this and I was not so sure it was worth the trouble. You proved me wrong..awesome..and lots more pics are needed!!!

                      Wow. What a beauty ! The new rig looks great ! Is it brand new, or freshly repainted? My 40 y.o. mast is looking pretty beat up !

                          Casco ,

                          The mast is not new. The new/old carbon fiber mast should be named Lazarus , for it is back from the dead.

                          Brief synopsis : about 10 years ago a certain C.F. spar facility in western U.S. was about to shut down. Through a friend of a friend , etc. , I was able to visit the place for the purpose of looking thru the scrap heap for a mast to replace my 1966 Columbia 34 rig. Lots of reasons for wishing to replace it. With a lot of help from a guy smarter than me I selected a Melges 30 mast which had come back on warranty and was destined for the grinder ; it was proportioned in such a way that it seemed adaptable. Getting the 40 ft+ javelin back to Wisconsin was tricky. After years of head scratching , fabrication , scrounging and trial and error , I stepped the mast last summer.

                          In answer to your specific question about the finish , new coat of marine enamel.

                          I still hope to start a new thread in order to tell the full story , whenever I can find the time.

                            Very pretty boat. Anxious to hear how she performs with such a spar.
