Gotta admit, this one got me to thinkin'. In terms of my boat and its A-4, there's much for which I'm thankful:
Yes, this forum, Don's generosity in hosting it, Bill's stewardship and the members, all a good bunch, askers and answerers alike. Often the askers spur the thought process and draw out the experience of others. The askers don't realize what a tremendous contribution they make.
My marina. I'm blessed to be in a professionally run and maintained marina. It helps make boating a pleasure. Sure they charge but I accept that they are a business. They certainly don't gouge. I'm sitting on my boat right now enjoying an afternoon Pacifico and participating on the forum courtesy of the Marina's free WiFi.
My P.O. While it's popular to trash our previous owners - and mine did plenty that is trashworthy - I've come to appreciate how much he loved this boat. I have a 35 year old Atomic 4 but it's only been in my care for the past 7 years. It starts in a half second regardless of layoff time, purrs like a kitten, doesn't leak anything, doesn't smoke and has no noticeable blowby. What does that tell you about the P.O.'s efforts? Yeah, pretty darn good. He left an unopened bottle of Puerto Rican rum onboard too. I wouldn't be so blasphemous as to use it in a mixed drink, it's for sippin' and I occasionally hoist one in his honor. Might even throw one back right now - Happy Thanksgiving!

However, as it was the P.O.'s bottle I save it for an occasional salute to him. After I bought the boat I learned that he was over 90, was the original owner and was well regarded in the local boating community (everybody knew him it seemed).
I tried contacting him about 5 years ago back through the broker but it went nowhere. Based on life expectancy I seriously doubt he's with us anymore. If he's watching over his boat I hope he approves of my care of his (former) baby.
