    Nor'easter Weather Info

(A repeat of an earlier post...)

You can track weather conditions in the affected areas, using ham radio weather station reports. You need not have an amateur radio operator's license to access this info. Here's how it's done:

    Go to http://www.aprs.fi.

    Ignore the default location.

Enter the address, city or zip code of interest and click on the search icon.

Find a blue circle with the letters "WX" and left-click on it.

A box will pop up with current weather info for that station. You can click on "show weather charts" in that box to get the weather history data in graphical form. Scroll down to see it all.

In a previous storm affecting a friend in Florida, I was able to determine when the storm passed, how bad conditions were and, by looking at other stations in the area to see when they may have stopped reporting data, make a reasonable guess as to when power may have been lost.

Works for this crappy weather as well. There's talk of this event being worse than Isabel, and that wasn't pleasant.
