BR - this was my main reason for NOT getting a CDI prop.

RC - I am with you 100%. Everyone here knows I do a lot of sailboat racing too and I do not want to be dragging a big wheel under the boat. If I recall, the 3 blade Indigo only adds 17% of blade area over a 2-blade prop & I haven't really noticed the difference. I know it is there, but...what are you gonna do?? I also know that you can 'hide' a 2 blade prop behind the keel&strut better than a 3 blade...but I've also decided that this is a cruising boat..they give me 6 seconds per mile in PHRF for my fixed prop when I do informal races. - IF I were racing the boat, I'd probably have a 2-blade Martec folding prop at 12 x 6, or even 12 x 5.

If you were as serious as some of your brethren you'd have a 3 blade prop for the handicap advantage. I've even seen racers widen the strut with Bondo for handicap reasons. The handicap advantage exceeds the drag loss.

Neil, I am sure that the 6 second credit I get in PHRF overtakes the drag.

Max Munger, the class secretary in #2276 with his tall rig, owes me 21 seconds a mile (he rates 177, my boat currently would rate 198 if I had a valid PHRF cert.) I cannot imagine that the sail area from 2 more feet of mast height plus bow sprit is worth that..

As we all know, one bad tack, or missing one shift, and none of that matters.

            It is all about money!!

If we had lots of money, we could test all sorts of props. but in the real world, we do the beat we can.

As I like to say, It is a sail boat. The prop is a big compromise.

I am sure that Tom, and Indigo, has limited funds too. He has a Tartan 34, and says that he tested the prop on the boat. I have no idea how many trial props he made. My guess is, not many.

Either way, I like the prop.

                Whoa...this Indigo prop is plastic??
Hm, I'd have to think long and hard about putting that on the boat.

My boat came with a Martec prop. It's awfully hard to give up that feature, especially because I do race informally. If I was running my fixed two-blade prop, I might jump to the Indigo prop more easily.

Indigo prop is not plastic. SS I think. Mine works great.

we get lost in the discussions, lol.

Pretty generous of MMI to provide and pay for a forum that includes the extensive discussion of the competition's product line, don't you think?

Applies to more threads than just this one.

                    edit:
Thanks Jerry (two posts after this one). I'm Okay with standing alone on this but it's nice to know I'm not.

Indigo prop comes standard as silicon-bronze, with 316 Stainless available as a special order.

I too love the ability to discuss the "competition" on here. Truth is they are only partly in competition. Moyer has done a lot to keep the A4 fleet alive and thus give Indigo a customer base. Indigo has some things Moyer does not, like the prop, PCV, and oil filter. I have products from both and could not be happier with customer service in all cases

                            Remember, this is a business

The Indigo product line would be better discussed on the Indigo forum that THEY pay for.

Look, I have no problem with their product line, their innovations or their position in the marketplace but this is like putting an ad on someone else's billboard.

                              Moyer Marine is the best!

Yet again, Why Moyer Marine gets my highest rating.
I called our good friend Ken at Moyer parts yesterday. As always he was extremely helpful and I ordered some parts (including a much desired dipstick extension, yeah!). Well, the ordered parts have just been delivered. Less than 24 hours standard UPS ground. AMAZING!

Thanks Ken and Moyer Marine for such a great forum, support, parts and Excellent service..
