    Original Installs by serial number?

    Good Day,
Does anyone have any idea where to find information concerning the original installation of an Atomic Four, based on the Engine Serial Number?
Also, does anyone know where to "age" an engine based on the serial number.
Yeah, I am new on this forum.

The engine in question is in a wooden hulled sailboat - unknown vintage, unknown design, unknown builder, unknown just about everything except everything wrong!

    I've been told that she is a Rhodes 29 - but that boat is 29' - LWL and is 42' OAL .... this boat is;

    LWL about 21'6" - 22'
    LOA 28'10"
    Beam 7'6"
    Draft about 4'6" (max)
she carries an iron keel (long/full keel)
Her mast is about 39' and is a "boxed design" wooden mast, two shrouds on each side and jack stays for the upper mast

She looks a bit like a Hinckley 21 but the dimensions a not quite right - I cannot find a Rhodes design that is even close.

Can send pictures if you think you may have some idea what she really is.
    Thanks.

Myranda, first welcome to the MMI Afourian Forum.

Yes there is a "production date" cast into the block and a serial number. The casting date is when manufactured and would have little to do with "installation". Some manufacturers of boats bought them in lots and had them for many years before installing. Don't remember just which side of the block, someone with a better memory will chime in with the exact spot.

Send out some pics and perhaps one of us "ole guys" can help identify yer' boat. She may be a stretched custom build of something. Very popular when they were "building boat" instead of molding them.

      Welcome to the forum!

The date stamp can be found on the side of the block, behind the carb.
Older ones had a readable date of the form mm/dd/yy, while newer ones have a 6 digit number, of the form MMDDYY.

I concur with Dave-post pictures! You might also post over on the WoodenBoat Forum, someone over there may know what it is you've got.

My brother's girlfriend just bought a Rhodes Ranger. Lots of bronze all around. I could compare it to yours. So yes, post a few glamour pics for us.
