    mechanical fuel pump fitting stripped

    Don,

I recently purchased your oil change kit. To install it I had to remove the mechanical fuel pump. Otherwise, I could not get the 90 degree elbow to thread past the side of the fuel pump. The kit then went on fine. However, upon reattaching the fuel pump to the block I discovered the rear threads on the block were stripped. Now I can only apply a few pounds of pressure to the rear 1/2 head bolt before it loosens up. I had a heck of a time getting the short socket off the bolt once I got as tight as it was going to go. How do you recommend that I fix the stripped threads in the block? Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

I recommend that you call McMaster-Carr at (732) 329-3200. They sell a repair bolt with slightly larger threads and a cutting tip which you can install directly into a hole with stripped threads. The 1" length of this type bolt has a McMaster-Carr part number of 91740A120. The 1 - 1/4" length is the same number except the last three digits are 122.
