Compression test w/o turning off water

I did a compression test without turning off thru-hull water supply...will this harm the engine? I tried to start the engine and after a short try it would not start so I consulted the web and found out that I should have shut the thru hull. The engine is fresh water cooled. What should I do now?

Since your engine will not currently start, I'm attaching a short check-list to assist you in that regard. If in removing the plugs during the starting check-list you discover water in the cylinders, I'm including a second check-list.
