Journey of water pump's o-ring ???

Do tell me where did the missing o-ring go?
I pulled the back plate off my Moyer water pump to examine the (still very perfect) impeller and discovered that there was no o-ring in the little plate groove.
I don't think I forgot it or that it fell out... of course that is possible... but if it did disintegrate or travel, where might it go plug up my cooling system?
I had an short-lived overheat / low-water episode, which is why I checked the impeller in the first place. Checked many hoses, thermo, etc. too. Isn't that thing way too small to lodge anywhere?

That O-ring is very, VERY tiny and fits into a groove in the back plate.
Look around where it could have possibly been dropped as it stuck to the plate when you removed it.
If it wasn't there in the first place, you'd have noticed.
