Great news! Glad it worked out for the better!

That was a clever idea with the bicycle tube. That solution never occured to me. I bought a replacement automotive tire stem at a car parts store, used an xacto knife to carve off the rubber "mushroom" part of the stem, and clamped the remaining ruber-sheathed stem into a piece of coolant hose.

      Gents,

This is available for under 10 bucks at Home Depot in the plumbing department. Add a hose barb or a nipple and you're in business.

I will definitely buy that the next time I forget to close that %^}#{!! valve when winterizing. My concern is that if I have a nice device like that at the ready, I may not be so careful.

Now, to get cracking on my rotten core so Caleb and I can compare notes....

          Nice work Tenders!
I've also got to do that pressure test of our cooling passages.

Yea, good work. I voted "useful post"
It shows how to do it without much investment and has good sequence of photos. Others will benefit from this thread I'm sure

Since tenders bumped this thread in another post....I was able to find a schrader valve on one end and an NPT fitting on the other end for like $3. This particular one pictured below is just a sample from Amazon.com with a 1/4" NPT. I would assume places like McMaster Carr would also stock these types of items.

This is just another alternative, but I really like Neil's do-hickey...I think we are getting a Home Depot down here in the sticks, in like, 2018 or something..maybe.
