Yesterday I picked up an A4, said to have been a good runner. It's been sitting for a few years, and I'm looking forward to making sure it's sound, cleaning it up, and installing it in my Morgan 27. It's serial number is 193326, so I gather it's a late model.
It's missing a few bits and pieces (coil, fuel pump, exh flange, flywheel cover), but otherwise seems complete. A Zenith carb came along with it (12-87 stamped on mounting flange?), as well as an alternator.
I did a couple of cold compression tests on it last night, with pressure seeming to build with the subsequent test; 1 - 85lbs, 2 - 110lbs, 3 - 80lbs, 4 - 110lbs. Afterwards I put a few squirts of MM oil in each hole, and turned it over by hand a few more times for good measure.
My plan is to outfit it to run on a test stand (read ground), then if all's good, clean up and install.
Any/all insights appreciated, as I'm totally new to the A4!
