    Cleaning aluminum with MMO

Hey anyone out there, I just saw a vid on "you-tube" about MMO. The vid showed cleaning and deoxidizing aluminum by just wiping with MMO. Anybody ever done that? It was a new one on me. I'd post the link but my skills there are slim. I found it looking for "rust removal" as I am looking to clean a bike frame via electrolysis at home, it was one of the links.

My current cleaner of choice is Zep Industrial Purple from Home Depot. Rather aggressive - watch aluminum parts closely as they tend to fizz.
Cleaning by electrolysis? New one on me.

          Wondering

Al, I've had a few buddies recommend the "purple" stuff too. I watched a guy do some window frames off his boat and they really cleaned up nice.

I was surprised to see the MMO doing it too. I wonder what is in the MMO that dissolves oxidized aluminum? I'm going to give it a try once I get ahold of some.

Hoping to hear from "Bill" as he likes rusty stuff and cleaning ole stuff up.

Gonna' have to try this down at the firehouse. Our last experiment (with a toothpaste tube-sized product costing $50) was a flop.

            Bill (not the rusty one)

Many things made from Al should not be "cleaned". The oxide acts as a barrier against further deterioration.

Methyl salicylate - oil of wintergreen? A decent penetrant and the thing that gives MMO its lustrous odeur.
