Distributor Cap - believe it or not!!

My C&C Corvette was very late being launched this season due to a belated paint job and a serious leak fortunately found and fixed. When finally launched, the engine refused to start (they say problems come in 3's!!), and following the Moyer troubleshooting bible, I checked for fuel (OK), wire connections (OK), spark plugs (OK), compression (OK) and then did the spark-from-the-coil-HT-lead-to-block trick. This last check puzzled me, on turning the engine over, I got one good spark then nothing. To cut a long story short, I was embarassed to discover I had installed the distributor cap 180 degrees out when I cleaned the points before the launch! Yes, it's possible even with the special cutout to fit the distributor 'only one way'! Fortunately there was no damage, and after correcting, the engine fired up the first flick of the starter, much to the admiration of my wife!! Should I tell her or bathe in the light of her hero-worshipping a while longer??

    Cap

Keep bathing baby, impressing the wife can go a long way to more cruising.
Perhaps what transpires on the forum stays in the forum?

Just don't panic Bob - and if you do, don't ever let them know!

Welcome to the world of C&C Corvettes! (What's the hull number?)

When I took my distributor off this winter to clean the weights and add electronic ignition, I put a little piece of white tape at #1. That little piece of tape is still hanging out on the cap

              And the plug wires

I have bits of tape labelled 1, 2, 3, 4 on the spark plug wires to correspond with the cylinders. I found out a long time ago on an ancient Honda Civic what an "interesting" effect it has on the engine when you get the plug wires out of order ...

Bob, Never Ever admit to anything. Just let them sing your praise.

BTW I labeled both the cap and the wires, guess why.
