Don et al.,
I thought I had posted this last night, but I didn't see it. My apologies if this is a duplicate post.
I have pulled the Stewart Warner OIL and TEMPERATURE gauges from my boat. When I twist the gauges back and forth in my hand, I cannot get the dial pointers to swing on either gauge. If I tap the OIL gauge on the table, I can free the pointer and it will then swing. A few minutes later, the pointer will be stuck again.
When connected to the engine, the OIL pressure gauge sort of works. It moves in 5 pound increments. It acts like the pointer is sticking and then freeing itself to swing to the next position.
The odd things is, the TEMPERATURE gauge works perfectly, yet I cannot swing that pointer by twisting the gauge with my hand.
Can anyone tell me if these gauge pointers are supposed to swing freely when the gauge it rotated? I want these gauges working before I put them and the engine back on the boat.
Steve
