Just launched my Irwin 32 with an Atomic 4 engine. She started right up at the marina and ran fine coming home to my mooring. As I approached the mooring under power I put her into neutral as usual to use the momentum to get close enough to grab the pick up buoy. She shuddered terribly in neutral. I shut her down and glided to the mooring. I had the mechanic from the marina come over and, of course, the engine and transmission had no problems changing gears while he was here. He had me bring her back to the marina. He was concerned a bit about the fluid for the transmission. After checking that and finding all was ok he had me start her at the dock and try changing gears. Again, no problem. He said it is difficult to fix something when it's not doing anything wrong. Perhaps it was just a fluke, perhaps not. I will have to take her to another marina if it happens again since my mechanics 'sends his trannys out' for repairs. Ed Barker, Henderson, NY

Your mechanic seems to be unfamiliar with the Atomic 4, as it does not
have what is commonly referred to as a transmission. It has a reversing
gear. If the reverse band is misadjusted too tightly it's possible to be
in reverse and a bit of forwards at the same time. The fluid in it
is oil from the back end of the oil pan -- it uses 3 clutch plates to
engage forwards.
Hopefully your issue was just a fluke and doesn't reoccur!
