    quiet motoring

A couple of years ago I had my old metal riser exhaust system replaced with an identical one constructed by a local welder. It works just fine but is a little noisy. The noise seems to come from 1) The exhaust port in the transom and 2) from some engine vibration. I intend to go after the engine vibration by replacing my ancient motor mounts but was wondering about adding a muffler between the old riser and the transom. Vetus makes one that is relatively inexpensive. Opinions?

    I love my muffler

My 1967 Pearson Vanguard was very well maintained by the previous owner. When he had the riser built he also installed a muffler just aft of the riser. This is one of the least noisy boats I've ever been on! I don't know what muffler he used but I can say that having one is a really good idea.
