    Anyone tried this tach?

Has anyone tried one of these tachometers on their A4?

There are other similar units from other manufacturers, but this was the only one that I found that worked with 4 cylinders. I bought one, but I haven't tried it yet. I mostly wanted an hour meter, but the tach will be nice too if it works well.

Watch out, the internal battery is in the potted unit and only good for 5 years, then you have to replace the entire unit.

        Yeah, I saw that.

I tested it today. Installation was a snap, and it worked. What else can I say? The RPM reading wasn't super stable at idle, jumping around from 700-800, but it settled down at higher RPMs.

If I get a full 5 years from it, I'll consider it a good deal at $50.
