Clutch/gear adjust help - broken bolt?

    Need some help!

Have a 1968 Pearson with relatively recent Atomic 4.

On discovering gear issues (not going into forward very well), I go in to adjust the gear as described in manual.

I discover that the threads for the retaining pin on the collar are damaged. At this point I am thinking I could drill and tap a new thread for the retaining pin.

Playing with the clutch (I suppose to call it that? The part the retaining pin threads into that the three arms are attached to), we discover that 180 degrees from the damaged hole for the retaining pin, there is another threaded hole!?

    Is this... a spare?

If it is, I assume I can just use that one and won't need to take another hole.......?

The attached photo shows the second hole with my retaining bolt put in it.

i believe there is only one hole for the locking bolt. there is a space 180 degrees that can be used to drill and tap a new bolt hole. i think someone already did that with yours. is the unused one all buggered up? try it and see, not sure why they would have made a new hole if the one main one is good
