An old guy suggested using a cork screw to get them out or an olive fork, he must have drank a lot on his boat. I can assure you the corksrew works better than an olive fork.

My dentist kindly gave me three of his used-but-sterilized explorers several years ago, too dull for his purposes but plenty pointy for mine.

They're also good as heatsinks for soldering small components, and for applying tiny dabs of adhesives including epoxy and superglue.
