    Packing Gland Drip Pan

    Hello,

Have you ever wondered how much your packing gland is dripping?

Want to isolate that drip from other drips coming into the bilge?

    I did.

So I fabricated out of thin aluminum a small drip pan that fits right behind the A-4 transmission, going back to behind the packing gland.

Now I can easily monitor exactly how much "weep" there is, and can tighten the packing gland nuts to keep things nice and perfect.

How? Make a cardboard template to fit the weird 3-D triangle of the bottom aft hull, cut aluminum, then just epoxy it together.

I keep a paper towel there to absorb drip water, and if it gets too wet, tighten the packing gland.

You can also look for oil drips from the rear transmission seal. They absorb to the paper towel.

    My best invention yet!!!

I was wondering how to make a drip collector for a certain task on the boat. Now I know. Thanks Rick.
