One on the floor Vs. Pedestal controls

My Peasron 30 has the A4 control levers, throttle and shifter, mounted on the side of the cockpit, down by my feet where they often get kicked and lines get wrapped around them. Thus, I'd like to move the levers to the wheel pedestal. Edson offers a "Mechanical Shift Engine Control kit" that looks the trick. Have any of you made this conversion? My main concern is with the shifter. I takes a fair amount of force to get my A4 in and out of forward. Not a big deal with the floor mounted lever, as it is fairly long, but I wonder how this will work if I make the change. A secondary concern is that I'll have to reroute the cables as the pedestal rig is pull-for-fast and pull-for-forward and the current rig is push-for-fast, push-for-forward.

So, is converting worth the effort? All tales of success and/or woe appreciated, particularly from the many P30 owners on this forum, but really from anyone with an A4 and pedestal controls.

    Don't think it will work.
Recommend you check the size (diameter) of the cables the unit is advertised to work with. I think you'll find they're the 3/16" (#10) cables, rather than the 5/16" cable needed for the A4 shifter.
Now, if someone were to come up with a hydraulic shifter for the A4 transmission, you could actuate the valve with the #10 cable and all would be good!

My 1977 Pearson 323 came stock with an Edson pedestal with pedestal mounted shifter and throttle. It does take a little force to get it over the detent into forward, but I've had no problems with it for the 3 years I've owned it.

        Jeff,
That is exactly the control head I have and it works fine. There's an easy way to reverse the throw of the shifting action, not so easy on the throttle. Both of my cables approach the engine from the non-flywheel end and my throttle is push to increase, shift is up for forward.

You're looking at new cables for sure. There are some tricks installing them. Post back when you're ready to go and we'll chat.

I have a p30 with the edson pedestal mounting and it shifts ok.

I used the teleflex extreme 6400 series cable to shift the A4..
