    Starting Without 1 Plug

Last Fall my A4 ran fine with the exception of stalling on low idle, I winterized it and all was well. Upon launch recently, the engine would start only when one spark plug was removed from the head. It would not start if the plug was in and the spark plug wire to that cylinder was disconnected. This is true for any plug 1 thru 4. Any thoughts on what the problem might be?

Does "not start" mean not turn over or not fire?

The engine turns over, but will not fire.

Whenever an engine will only run on any three cylinders, it has always turned out that a serious restriction had developed within the exhaust system. In other words, the exhaust system only had enough capacity to remove the exhaust of a three-cylinder engine, but not a four-cylinder.

            Thanks!

Don, Thanks for your reply, that was the exact problem. I loosened the exhaust pipe from the manifold about 1/8" and it ran like a charm! The problem baffled 4 mechanics...
