    Propeller shaft size?

    Crazy question:

Did all A4's have the same diameter propeller shaft, or did it vary between boat manufacturers?

Any idea what the diameter of a Pearson 30 shaft would be? I'm looking to buy a new zinc.

Shaft diameters varied all over the map, with 7/8" and 1" being common.

    My Pearson 323 has a 1 1/8" shaft.

I just checked with one of our PSA members who has a P-30, and his shaft is 7/8".

Yeah, mine is only 3/4" and when I went to replace it, everyone out here on the west coast told me "oh, nobody makes those any more." Had to get one from the east coast. Still haven't found a new shaft-log hose the right size.

...can't you put a caliper on it?

Guess and buy a 1" zinc from a place like west marine. If it doesn't fit clean it up take it back and exchange it. Your boat is in the water I presume? Another idea is to buy 2 or 3 different sizes and return the one(s) that don't fit.

        TRUE GRIT

Edit: You can't measure the shaft diameter somewhere inside the boat?

3/4" here on my Ericson 32 too.

C'mon, shafts are made for all kinds of rotating machinery, even smaller than 3/4". I think you got shafted.

Sorry to dig up the old thread, but I am trying to determine the shaft size , original Atomic 4 direct drive in my 1967 C&C Corvette......I'm guessing I might have to get a caliper and measure to be sure......

JDK, There are a couple Corvette owners here, maybe they'll chime in. If you don't get an answer in a couple days, I'd start a new thread in the drivetrain area with a title something like, "What is the shaft size on my '67 C&C Corvette?"

Most of us regulars scan all the recently edited threads on a regular basis, but not everyone is as demented as me.

I guess I must also be one of the demented ones (and happy to admit it). It's part of my day. Lots of good information here even if it doesn't apply at the moment and you never know when your turn may come.
