    Oil fill

I have a "new" 1964 Columbia. Looking over the engine, I find no oil fill tube. The plate on the transmission is solid, which is where it looks like there should be an oil fill tube. What gives, and is there a retrofit to add the oil fill tube?
    Thanks.

If you have a late model engine, the fill tube is at the opposite side of the
    engine above the flywheel housing.

Bill, the oil fill location varies based on engine model...direct drive/v-drive/early/late, etc..

Welcome to the forum..we'll get you straightened out once there is a little more info. My late model direct drive has the oil fill between the head and flywheel cover. I am not an expert on older models (or any models for that matter) but there are a few other Colombia owners who should be able to help.

My early model engine in a 1964 Islander has a funky oil fill near the waterpump, by the transmission and oil dipstick. I think it is on the distributer housing, but I can not remember for sure. It is a little rectangular flip up lid which covers a very small hole which takes for ever to pour oil into and is a real pain. I think it says oil on it.

I wish I had pics to help you, but I do not at the moment. I will eb very glad when I get my late model rebuild done and installed, as I will then have a regular oil fill tube above the flywheel which will make filling way easier.

BryanLee, I think you got it.

Check out this picture of the early model housing out of the Moyer Catalog..looks like an oil fill over near the dizzy!

V-drive engines have an oil-fill cap installed on the flat plate on top of the transmission, and have a oil dipstick just to the right of it.

That is, I believe, the "Kaminsky Modification."

I think the oil fill he's referring to is in the upper right corner, above the cutout for the starter motor. The large pipe plug in the left lower is the Kaminsky mod.

TSSY, if your engine is a 1964 A4 the oil fill will be that hinged cover over the accessory drive/water pump cutout.

                          Cheers!

On all models you can remove the transmission cover to siphon oil and
                            add oil readily

ARgh! Gotcha. I knew the Kaminsky mod - I ass-u-me-d that is what was being referred to. I shall henceforth go to the west and diminish.
