Gasket for carb flange at engine

I took the carb off my 5-year-old Moyer "new" A4 to clean the gunk out. There was no gasket between the carb and the engine. Don sells such a gasket. I don't recall if my old A4 had such as gasket.

Don: is that gasket necessary? The engine runs just fine without it.

I'm Not Don But Here Goes

The short answer: If you are happy with the way the engine is running don't change anything.

The longer answer: You may have a lean condition because of a slight air leak. Adding the gasket might make your engine run even better.

      Gasket

Larry, it's necessary for proper performance.

        Air Leak

One way that you can detect an air leak at the flange gasket is to look at your idle speed.

If the idle goes at ~1000+ then you have an air leak (like a slightly open throttle).

          Carb flange gasket

Well, the engine idles just fine - down to 600 rpm if I want.

However, since I want to order a carb gasket (the one between the tow halves) anyhow, I might as well order the flange gasket. Since Don's rebuilders didn't put one in, I though I would ask.

          Thanks
