    Woodyboatguy Restorer

Hi all, I am a wood boat restorer that specializes in Chris Craft and others runabouts and utilities . see antiquewoodboatrestoration.com

Pictured is an engine that I have had for a few years in the shop for display. I would like to know more about it . It looks like it was possibly rebuilt or valve job as all gaskets look fresh. Turns over by hand with good feel. It needs a coil and holder thus I have not tried to start it. Oil is new, No fuel pump?

    thanks,steve

    Hi Steve,
Well, it's not an Atomic 4 - so not too many responses from this BB. But what a neat old engine! I know nothing about it, but the similarities to and differences from the Atomic 4 are interesting.
Curious about the cooling system - is it raw water cooled? Looks like the raw water may mix with the exhaust inside the manifold. Nothing that looks like a thermostat..
I'd guess the electrical is 6V. Looks like a generator aft of the starter.
Carb looks similar to those on the early A4s.
Any idea of the displacement or HP rating? Looks bigger than the A4.
Would be great to get it running and even perhaps install it in a boat!
Naah - probably junk. Where can I pick it up to get rid of it for you?
    Best..

Very cool. I'm glad that Al spoke first that it is not an a4 or I might have said something foolish. I think we will all like.to know.more about it and look.forward to one of our deep well of older engine knowledge knowing exactly everything about it.

Funny how things come around. It's like a big circle.

            Super Four

            hello All,

was at Maine Maritime Museum last summer and saw a Super Four installed in a wooden picnic type boat. spark arrestor and carb seemed to be 50% larger than the A-Four.
