    Atomic 4 Makeover

Okay, not to brag, but I'm kind proud of this... After cleaning, painting, flushing, wiring, hosing, piecing, parting, (some bleeding), and a several of Don's great kits, the old Atomic 4 fired up on the first crank.

I spent a lot of hours on this forum. Never ran into a problem that someone else hadn't already encountered. This site is an incredible resource. Thanks to all who contribute!

Here's a fun little video of the makeover:

Sweet! May as well brag, you earned it.
Ranger 33 is a super boat too.

Montana? Is that on the West or the East coast?

        Nice job!

Great work and a very nice presentation. The A4 sounded great at the end.

Now you just have to look into shipping to get the boat to the ocean!

We are the Third coast! We sail Flathead Lake and love our R33. We are preparing to trailer her to Florida this fall for a year-long cruise. Follow us on facebook if you are interested: https://www.facebook.com/SVChinook

Excellent job!!! We are in Spokane, but have a Ranger 29 with an A-4 over in Anacortes. You are invited over for a coastal cruise as "official engine mechanic" any time!

                Sweet!

Did you do all that work right there in the boat?

Looks and sounds great. Also looks like you have pretty good access to your engine.

I am gonna have to check out the video.

I grew up cruising with another family that had a Ranger 33..I remember the owner telling me stories about his A4 that had a tendency to go through head gaskets apparently as fast as I like to go thru ignition coils.. He & his son would change the head gasket while the girls sailed the boat to the next destination, if they knew they were going to need the engine later on in the trip. Usually, they just sailed into the raft/marina.

The boat is still around, but after he sold it (20+ years ago) someone slapped an outboard on the transom.

                    Excellent!

Amazing that you could do such a great job of it right there in the boat. Awesome... The vid is pretty great as well. Both nicely done..

I was determined not to pull the engine. I pulled the panels under the galley sink to get better access to the carb side. I have pretty good access to the back of the engine thru the cockpit locker. I couldn't get to the underside as well as I would have liked, but that will have to wait until she needs a full rebuild.

The only thing I didn't tackle (yet) is the exhaust. It seems to be working fine, but I'd like to take a look because I don't know how old it is. But I know what will happen when I try to loosen those bolts on the exhaust flange...

                          Ermm yeah....

Take your time with those exhaust flange bolts. PBB or Kroil as some would suggest. Easy does it...
                          Nice job again..
