My son has an A4 in his Catalina 27. I've maintained it for several years, fixed a few minor fuel and electrical problems and it's run fine. Two years ago the A4 was submerged up to the bottom of the starter over the winter. It was not recommissioned last year due to other priorities. The starter behaves like the solenoid contacts are fouled or the starter itself is bad. Not surprising after partial immersion.
I checked the wiring and made some mods to assure there is very little voltage drop. I believe the next step is to remove the starter assembly and have it rebuilt. Unfortunately my son and I are not physically able to do that and at this stage I'd like to find a good mechanic in the area that could work on the boat to get the starter fixed and the A4 running again. Of course, it may have other problems too. The boat is located on Kent Island, Maryland.
Can anyone recommend or even just point to a mechanic that would works on the A4?
TIA
