Fuel Line From Pump to Carb Question

Hey All,

I have a Palmer P-60 and I am replacing the old rusted metal fuel line from the fuel pump to the carburetor. Since the carburetor and fuel pump are the same as the A4 I hope folks don't mind that I am posting here.

I thought I only needed a standard fuel hose but then I came across this picture of a Palmer P60 with a similar setup. Half way in the fuel line is what looks like some kind of fitting (I've circled it red). Does anyone know what this is and if I need something similar? Could it be an anti-siphon fitting? Any information would be great!

Looks like a fuel filter to me. Very common on A4s.

Commonly called a "polishing" filter. Its usually a last-line-of-defense to catch the really fine stuff that might have gotten this far.

However, on boats with a gas inboard, it is supposed to be metal to make the USCG happy.

The current or replacement hoses will need to be ethanol rated.

When you remove the carb, take the hose off the INPUT end of the filter. This keeps rubber flecks out of the carb

Moyer sells those metal cased inline fuel filters for $5.25 a piece. They are product # FPMP_07.1_473. To find them from the main MMI page select 'Catalog', 'Fuel Pumps' and scroll down.
Also recommended is to replace your fuel lines while you are at it. We need fuel lines that resist E10 gasoline (I believe it is A1 rated fuel lines?). MMI also sells the fuel lines as I'm sure does your local NAPA or other auto parts place.
