One of my spark plug threads on the head is very poor. Can I install a Heli-coil in this area? Will the compression be too stong for it?
Any other suggestions?
I used a really neat spark plug hole repair kit some years ago, but I cannot for the life of me remember the brand name of a (it may have been Heli-Coil but I don't think so). It came with a two-stage tapping tool that created the threads used by the threaded bushing. By coating the tool in wheel bearing grease, the cuttings all seemed to be trapped in the flutes of the tap. I'm sure you'll be able to find such a kit at any local auto parts store.
Hi Don
Thanks for the lead. I asked for it at the auto supply store (Car Quest) and they supplied me with a 'Sav-a-Thread' spark plug port repair kit. It is made by HeliCoil and costs about $40.
I used it yesterday and it worked great. Simple but effective.
