    Distributor Advance Lubrication

A couple of weekends ago I disassembled my advance mechanism, cleaned the rust off, applied a very thin coat of oil to all the parts, reassembled, set the distributor cap on top for protection, and ordered new springs from our favorite A4 parts supplier.

When I installed the new springs there was a bit of dust on the advance after just one week.

Does anyone out there know of a product that will lubricate, stop rust, and not pull in dust?

Some kind of silicon spray perhaps?

    Oil??

John, I use a Vistac (way lube) on my counter shaft and the weights for the most part. Gear oil actually works pretty good on both as well. I suggest a light grease on the weights for the marine invironment, there are some good silicone base greases available now as well and they a quite moisture proof.

You can use the dip-stick to oil the felt that feeds the counter shaft, it doesn't take much.

My greased weights go about 3 seasons and I oil my counter shaft once or twice a season. They have never stuck on me yet.
