Water pump green from leaks

Over years of slight leaking the water pump and for that matter the stuffing box and strainer are discolored green with indication of salt deposits. What is the best way to get them back to orig yellow brass/bronze color.

Vinegar works pretty good with a small wire brush.

Got it... that was where I was headed as well until as you can see in above post I made a boat/engine change. Thanks...
