My Oberdorfer pump is one hand accessible. Is it OK to pull the shaft and impeller in one piece, in order to replace the impeller? Are there any precautions, if it is?

It's definitely OK to remove the shaft along with the impeller from an Oberdorfer pump. When you reinstall the shaft with the new impeller, you'll have to rotate the impeller to get the blades to enter into the impeller chamber, as well as for the notch in the end of the shaft to line up with the small roll pin in the center of the accessory drive gear. Rotating the impeller and shaft in this manner is not usually a problem.
