Marvel Mystery Oil

New to A4 forum so please help a newbie!
I have seen MMO noted but am unable to find a place in Toronto to purchase this mystery product. Is their a Canadian equivalent?
I am about to start my first winterising of my Atomic 4 (installed in a 1980 Hughes 35) so want to locate MMO or equiv asap!

Newbie Paul. Welcome, and don't stress ..most of us use MMO in the winter to kind of "pickle" the rings/cylinders/valves at winterization time...but it isn't critical.

Do you have access to the front of the motor to turn it over by hand? If I recall, a Hughes 38 has the motor in the bilge, but I am not familiar with a Hughes 35.

Other options are to 'blip' the throttle with the main wire removed from the coil so it doesn't fire and move the MMO around.

I squirt MMO into the cylinder holes once or twice over the winter and give it a couple revolutions with the hand crank during the winter.

Costco has it in Canada - or at least it is listed on their website but it is on-line order only. not carried in stores.

i have not ordered it yet but i better do so soon if i want to use to winterize.

Not at Walmart
Curious to know, why am I draining the oil when winterising.
First experience with a marine motor but have never drained oil from any of my winter stored cars.

You should be CHANGING the oil, not just draining it!

The A4 has no oil filter and often is run for short periods without getting fully warmed up - this can cause sludge to build up in the oil and fall out of suspension in the crankcase when the boat is laid up, so it's best to store the engine with clean oil.

My routine is to get my engine as warm as possible before hauling, and the first thing I do when she's in the cradle is pump fresh water, then antifreeze though the engine as I'm fogging it, then remove the old oil with a Topsider vacuum pump while it's still very warm, add NEW oil, then squirt the MMO into the cylinders.

Agree with vacuum pump. Draining alone left about 2 qts in my engine. Vacuum pump gets it all out. Pump was worth the $. Also used it on my car and lawn mower. Super easy.

When the oil is warm (1) it is much less viscous and thus far, far easier to get out of the engine and (2) the crud you want out is hopefully better-suspended in the oil.
