    Water inlet fitting

    Hi

interesting launch day with exhaust failing on me. Rebuilding. I'm having trouble locating the fitting in the photo where water is inlet into the exhaust. Anyone know of where I can find one? In the Catalina style unit available on this site there seems to be a plastic/nylon fitting available but I can't seem to find one on my usual sites:

    Thanks.

      Grant,

Is that galvanized pipe in the photos you posted?

Galvanized pipe will offgas toxic fumes when heated.

Conventional wisdom is to use black iron pipe instead.

This is very true. Before I learned to use black iron, I would motor around with all the cockpit and engine hatches burning off the zinc fumes from a new exhaust. If you breath the zinc fumes it makes you ill

          Replaced with black iron

Hi - thanks for the comments. Was able to find a plumbing store with black iron, went with that.

One think I noticed this year was a tendency to stall in idle. Now this is perhaps not related to the hot section change as that failed on launch day so I have not used the boat much.

Idle is 1 turn off fully down. I have cleaned out the carb a couple of times, not really any improvement. I got new gaskets for the main carb housing and carb to manifold connection. DO people generally use a gasket sealant in addition to the new gaskets or are they OK 'dry'?

I have not checked the points yet as suggested on other threads re stall in idle.

Also service the ignition advance. If the advance is sticking it will affect the idle.
Try 1 1/2 turns off the seat on the idle mixture adjustment. 1 1/2 turns off the seat is the starting point for idle adjustment.

I had a problem once with stalling in idle. It turned out to be a piece of crud in the idle jet, not visible in an otherwise clean carb until the jet was removed and held up to the light. Did you do that? Also the idle ports, which are small holes in the carb throat at the throttle flap, need to be cleaned with a wire. The gaskets should be fine dry as long as the surfaces are flat and clean. I recommend electronic ignition, so you can forget about points and condensers.
