    Breather Cap's Bronze Wool...

...is saturated with crankcase fumes since 1978. Other than wanting her to be in the best condition, is there a good reason to dip the breather cap in gasoline for another clean beginning or is that gilding the lilly?

    Bob,

It sounds to me as though you might be reporting on crankcase fumes in your cabin, as well as fumes in your breather cap. If this is the case, and your engine is otherwise performing well, you might look into the crankcase venting kit marketed by Indigo Electronics. This kit provides a much more positive suction on the crankcase and has been effective in removing much higher levels of fumes (probably blow-by) from the crankcase than you seem to be experiencing.

    Indigo's phone number is (800) 428-8569.

    Best regards,

    Don
