    Bill,

Nothing was going to free them...one thing I didn't try was welding torch and electric welder.....

Have 5/16-18 bolts and nuts ready to make studs of of them....check out this original copper washer
If 5/16 thread will not work I will have to go to 3/8-24......let's hope will not have to do that.

Would love to have another Atomic to play with ...there was one for sale on the forum in my area, but there was someone interested already....aand I have enough projects as it is
Due to not much time before boating $ea$on I am going to get stronger valve springs, rebuild carburator and fuel pump and call it good......see if and how the motor will work this summer and go from there

2dogs...great pic of your work...be careful with the tap..you don't want to ruin what's there..I'd recommend a thread chaser set first to see if it will dig out the old junk in the block...and see how that goes..it is not as aggressive as a full tap.

            2dogs, looking good.

If you haven't found one already, I found my thread chaser kit at Sears. On buggered up threads I always try it first before resorting to the tap.

I was looking at thread chaser kits but decided to go with regular taps...as it turned out the bottom tap was working better than plug style.......as long as I was carefull and going slow, I was always able to pick up the original thread, and after that it was just like taping.....WD40 substituting for cutting fluid was working good too.

ALL 8 holes cleaned up great.....SS bolts are fitting little too loose for my likings ....so I will go with GB weld

This week I will cut bolts to size, and I will be ready to hone valves next weekend....that will be the extend of my rebuild this season...I want to run the motor this summer and see how I like the boat.....

So all I need to get is: gasket set, stronger valve springs, and 6V battery and I should be ready to start the motor

Thanks for the encouragement Shawn !
........the project is going so incredibly slow ...I see other people are rebuilding motor from ground up in two postings ...
I was thinking about changing 6V system to 12V...but I think I am better off to get 6V battery - it will be faster and cheaper for now....I can tackle that project later on...
Went with my wife to near by State Park ....15 min from our home....Pacific Northwest is very beautiful ..lucky to be living here

It is beautiful there!! I did a San Yuan Islands charter a few years ago. It was beautiful and filled with wildlife, just no wind. I motored all over the place and did not sail. The seals were so much fun.

Whenever you have dissimilar metals in contact in the presence of water - especially salt water - you will almost certainly have galvanic action, which will corrode and weaken one of the metals.

For marine applications, red brass is ok, yellow brass is not. "Red brass" is actually a type of bronze, which is corrosion resistant, whereas yellow brass is not.

I have one of these in my spare motor and one on my spares shelf. It is a way cool thing. I plan to install it on the boat as soon as I figure out a good place to put the return hose from my oil filter. I have the indigo system installed exactly as designed. Any suggestions out there?
