Next snag - Turns out Navionics on Ipads does not support AIS
I got the wifi link going, but I could not see any targets. Looked it up when I got home and now I know why
iNavX will work, so I guess I'll be grabbing that.Joe Della Barba

Please keep careful notes on the iNavX setup as I'll be looking to benefit from your success. I have it and have yet to see a single AIS target (iPhone 5s). Considering I sail around one of the busiest commercial harbors in the world I'd expect at least something.Neil

I have been using iNavx for years, and have had no problems. The only "catch" (which isn't really that) is that you must enable the incoming Wifi signal each time you use it.
Describe your hardware setup, and I'll see if I can help. My experience is with an iPad. Don't know how that might change things.

Thanks Bill. I reviewed my settings within the app and the one glaring issue appears to be I do not have a host address entered under the TCP/IP client. WiFi IS connected.
Let's pick this up after the holiday.Neil

I am still wiring, but I hooked up the Wifi for another test today to make sure it all still works.
This is the WiFi connection.
Here are AIS targets on the iPad.
I set up the connection via UDP, not TCP. You need the ports to match, in this case I am using port 2000.
Here you can see the data scrolling by. The "email" is in reference to another part of the screen.

Standard-Horizon has my plotter updated with the latest firmware. $35 plus shipping, should be back here by mid week. I would like to thank S-H, many a time I have had other companies tell me "no way are we fixing that old thing, buy a new one".Joe Della Barba

Joe, So, I am checking out your plotter pic (again). Since you are a local I hope you can give us real world data on Kent Narrows...how is the north entrance? Is it passable with 5'3" draft? Haven't been thru there in several years.-Shawn

Update: I tried a few things and discovered good data goes into one end of the cable and corrupt data comes out the other end.
I got 20 feet of Ancor 8 conductor signal wire and in a burst of Einstein level brilliance, just laid the wire on the quarterberth in a coil and ran the data through. It works Note to self, test cable BEFORE running it through the boat
So now I have AIS data out in the cockpit on the CP180. The firmware update also allows the plotter to read GPS data on any port, so the AIS feed itself will provide position info without even using the GPS smart antenna (AKA nmea gps unit), which would not work before. The update also allows split screen charts, which is a bit silly on the small screen 180. It would be very useful with a bigger screen. Tactical -what is within 1/2 mile, strategic - 5 or 10 or 20 miles out. No matter what the AIS alarm will squawk if the CPA/TCPA alarm settings are violated, so you'll need your transponder off to sneak up on me.
Speaking of transponder off, this is the switch for receive-only:Last edited by joe_db; 02-05-2018, 06:39 PM.Joe Della Barba

Nice! As I would have expected, that a very beautiful craft you have there.
If my poor little Newport looks anywhere near that nice when I'm done, I'll be more than satisfied.
I find it interesting you deck color scheme is just what I want to do; bright white with light grey for the non-slip. After seeing yours I think I like that combination even more.sigpic Just another Ol' Guy living the dream... :-)
