Yep, I agree with tartansailboat. I could have squeezed the 1/4" into the packing nut, but it would have been very tight and I doubt the shaft would have gotten the needed lubrication. The 3/16" fit like a glove...just a tad bit loose, but will compress when tightened to be just right.
