I've started working with a local expert to improve the reversing ability. No matter what adjustment either of us made, the boat would only hold reverse at low engine speed and only with light touch of the forward, neutral, reverse selector.
If someone moved the direction selector too much too quickly, the reverse bar sometimes came out of the shift yoke.
The feedback from our local expert is that the whole reversing gear system feels looser than what he would expect. As Al noted earlier in this thread, the reverse bar did not sit deeply in the shift yoke or look quite perpendicular to the drive train.
He found the reversing band brace to be heavily worn. Most of the material is gone from it where it rubbed. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1Q...9mMEtmQm45NV9R I believe this explains the alignment issue I was having with the brake band reversing bar and shift yoke.
I've ordered a new one as well as some other parts such as a new brake band reversing bar from Moyer Marine. I am excited as I think this may reconcile the feedback I've received here and what I've observed for quite some time. Wanted to share for wisdom from the experts here and to hopefully contribute a little. Has anyone seen this kind of issue before and if so, are there any other concerns I should investigate? thanks again.
