Late Model Atomic 4 for sale in Newport Beach, CA

For sale is a complete late model Atomic 4 gasoline running and well maintained. It's currently in my Newport 28 sailboat and if you are in southern california you can see it run before I pull it out of the boat. It's been very reliable the last 4 years with no issues. Very well maintained.

Includes everything attached to the motor!(Except the hull of course)

    great carburetor
    fresh water heat exchanger
    new Oberdorfer raw water pump
    great motorola alternator
    +everything

Will fit into most small keelboats: Catalina 27, Hunter 25, Ericson 29, etc

    Two questions

    1. How much?
    2. If I may . . . , why are you removing and selling a good running engine?

I'm thinking $2000 for an easy buyer. If you're interested please pm me your phone number and we can talk. As I mentioned, the motor is still in the boat and I can send video or you can stop by to see it.

This atomic 4 has been reliable and I've had no problems with it. No big reason other than I got a new electric drive for a good price and it will be a fun project.

        heresy and the future

        Foxoc

I'm tempted to invest in your engine...

I know its heresy, but I'd also like to know about your electric drive project.

I know my A4, with 50 years of socal seawater running through it, will rust out one day. There's lots to love about the A4, and I've been faithful... I don't mind being up to the elbows with bilgewater and dirty engine oil every so often. But it is, at this point, antiquated technology. Electric technology is changing fast, and I think electric with regeneration and a diesel aux/emergency generator is in my future. The idea of recharging when at hullspeed makes a huge amount of sense to me.
"Halcyon" 36' custom sloop. 8 tons. Glass over strip plank mahoghany. Spruce mast and booms, launched 1969. Original A4.

Wow 50 years of salt water cooling is impressive but also scary as it's only a matter of time...I've never had issues with the current atomic 4 configuration other than the raw water pump corroding(which i replaced).

I'm just doing the repower because it sounds like a fun project and I got a deal on a drive. Its definitely expensive to go electric but that's boating!

If you are interested in my atomic PM me your phone number and we can talk about it. Where are you located? Can you come pick it up?

I would not be a buyer as I have a great running engine in the boat and a fresh rebuild waiting in the wings. Please keep us posted on your electric drive progress, always interesting.
