    infrared thermometer

Do the under $50 ones actually work and last? Can anyone suggest a brand?

I like the idea of monitoring various parts of the engine as well as the stuffing box under various conditions.

    Thanks!

I have an expensive one from Harbor Freight that I'm happy with. Max reading is about 400 F or so.

Mine was 24 bucks on sale...regular 59...works like a charm. They all work pretty good. Mine sits in a cupboard on stb side....nothing special for protection etc. Push the button and it comes on and takes the temp.

We started using infra red in hospitals to take temps about 25 yrs ago...paid thousands for them at that time. Same sort of technology now for just about anything at a mere fraction of the price.

I bought mine from harbor freight, for about 25 dollars. It seems to work ok. when I shoot the cylinder I get all sorts of reading though. More steady around other parts and the house.

I picked mine up several years ago at Canadian Tire. It's never given me any problems and from what I've seen comes on sale fairly frequently.

Princess Auto. Several models for $20. The one I have works .... can't say how long it will last as I've only had it for a bit.

Mine is on year 3; Princess Auto as well. For what they cost I think they are handy to have around.
